Create Product with Variants
Verify that products with multiple options (Size, Color, etc.) can be created with individual SKU, pricing, and inventory for each variant combination.
Preconditions
- You are logged in with product management permissions
- You understand variant concepts (options like Size, Color that create multiple SKUs)
Test Data
Product: "Cotton T-Shirt", Options: Size (S, M, L, XL), Color (Black, White, Navy). This creates 12 variants (4 sizes x 3 colors). Each variant should have unique SKU and can have different price.Test Steps
Follow each step carefully
Navigate to Products and click "Add Product"
Products section in sidebar, then "Add Product" button
Product creation form appears
Fill in basic product information (name, description)
Name and description fields at the top
Basic info is entered
Enable variants by toggling "This product has options" or similar
Toggle/checkbox in Options or Variants section
Variant configuration section expands
Add the first option type: Size
"Add Option" button, then enter option name "Size"
Option name input field appears with "Size" entered
Enter size values: S, M, L, XL
Text input for values, usually comma-separated or individual inputs
All size values are added and displayed as tags or list items
Press Enter or comma after each value
Add second option type: Color
"Add Another Option" button
Second option name input appears
Enter color values: Black, White, Navy
All color values are added
Review the generated variants table
Table showing all combinations (S/Black, S/White, M/Black, etc.)
All 12 expected combinations appear (4 sizes x 3 colors)
Set unique SKU for each variant
SKU input column in the variants table
Each variant has a unique SKU (e.g., TSH-S-BLK, TSH-M-WHT)
SKUs must be unique across the entire store
Set prices for variants (can be different per variant)
Price input for each variant row
Prices are set; verify some variants can have different prices
You can set a default price and then adjust individual variants if needed
Set inventory quantity for each variant
Quantity/Stock input for each variant row
Stock quantities are set for each variant
Link a specific image to a variant (optional)
Image selector or dropdown on variant row
Variant shows linked image thumbnail
Useful for showing different color swatches
Save the product
"Save" or "Create Product" button
Success message appears
Expected Result
After creation: (1) Product has all 12 variants created, (2) Each variant has its own SKU, price, and stock, (3) On storefront, customers can select Size and Color options, (4) Selecting options updates the displayed price and availability, (5) Adding to cart creates the specific variant order item, (6) Inventory is tracked per-variant.
